Layers Problem B: Textured Layer Collage

This layering problem finally presented me with enough creative freedom and hand-made art requirements to really express my artistic style. The use of color has been accented throughout this course, and also the possibilities of creating complex pieces that communicate simply. Never before have I been asked to at create art in this way, and never again will I be able to do anything but "design" artistically. It is life!

Layers Problem A: Sequence for Animation

Obviously kitty-inspired, I cut out simple shapes from black paper
and scanned them into Photoshop to color and layer them.

My sequence is now pelican and shark themed, inspired by the colors the layering created. There are subtle
textures in each of the individual shapes, and the end has a full hue and saturation change; The best for last!

The sequence is shown here with the texture layers added on.

Grids & Patterns Problem C: B&W and Corresponding Color Patterns

Black & white outline of original flower pattern. My first pattern has taught me the tedious process of creating
my own designs and repeating then coloring them. There are so many options I could pattern for life.

The outline of this pattern looks nothing like the colored version!

This is the most complex pattern I worked on. The overlapping and lines created a depth I never expected.

The muted colors and mixed opacities presented new dimensions for me to work in.

My avante garde pattern. I worked on this one last, and thought I would show the repetition in a more abstract
way. There is still a theme that ties each element in together, and a color harmony that suggests unity.

Grids & Patterns Problem B: Color Composition Grids

For this problem, I really strived to express emotion, movement, time, light, and other messages not usually told strictly through color.
I used neutrals and neons, brights and grays to achieve an overall harmony with complexity. This grid allowed me to work out of my comfort
zone of color, and really proved to me that there are so many tints, shades, and opacities that can highlight and compliment one another.

Grids & Patterns Problem A: Black & Gray Layout

These are five examples of photo (black) and text (gray) layouts that I would intend to use for future projects. I can see these layouts in
magazines, periodicals, journals, websites, scrapbooks, or any project that requires a combination of the two elements.

The white space serves a purpose to balance the large amount of photography and text filling the page.

Border Play Problem C: Sketch of Logo Layout

I tried different logo and company name layouts, making sure to explore all the options of layering, colors,
emphasis, and typeface variations. Although some were more fun, I went with the option that read most clearly.

My final sketch is the top left logo. It is the same as the middle option in the photo above. Also included here
is a sketch from Candice, guiding me through my options of company names and placements. Awesome!
